NASA Scientist Marc Fries, Dr. Neeraja Chinchalkar, and Rice Professor Bidong Zhang Discuss Houston Meteorite Crash
On March 21, 2026, a meteorite crashed through the roof of a Houston home. In the street in front of the crashed home, scientists gathered and discussed the event.
NASA planetary scientist Marc Fries, who works at the Johnson Space Center in Houston talks about the strewn field with Dr. Neeraja Chinchalkar and Rice University Asst. Professor Bidong Zhang.
They left shortly after this to explore other locations like a nearby golf course in search of more fallen space rocks.
The home where the meteorite crashed into became a staging area for scientists, media, and even space rock hunters.
As the neighbors came outside to learn what the commotion was, they received news that a meteorite had crashed very near them.
Many began to walk around their homes and search for any additional meteorites that were potentially not yet found.
NASA scientist Fries, Chinchalkar, and Zhang hoped to find some meteorites for themselves as well.
They spent most of the day going to different locations where they might have some luck in addition to their scientific expertise of the meteorite's strewn field.
