Graptemys Geographica or Northern Map Turtle on the Perfect-Sized River Rock
This reptile is known as the Graptemys geographica or northern map turtle.
I found this beauty sunbathing on a river rock and was impressed how it had found the perfect one.
These turtles grow to be medium sized and eat a lot of aquatic vegetation. They get their name from the map like patterns on their shell.
They usually live to be somewhere between 20-30 years old.
Once this aquatic tortoise had climbed up onto this rock, he was not moving, so I had plenty of time to photograph the sun loving creature.
