Famous Endangered Species the Ring-tailed Lemurs From Madagascar

Famous Ring Tailed Lemurs From Madagascar

This beautiful group of ring-tailed lemurs from Madagascar are famous because of the hit animated movie. Ring tailed lemurs or Lemur Catta are part of the Strepsirrhine group. They get their name because of their unique long tail, with black fur rings around it. These lemurs enjoyed socializing and playing in their beautiful habitat of Alocasia, Lemon grass, wood, and rocks.

Some people know them as Maky or Hira, depending on what region you are in. They have extremely sensitive smell and they can literally smell weakness among other Lemurs. They use that skill to their advantage and are very crafty little animals.

Ring tailed lemurs are an endangered species. There are estimated to only be about 2,500 of them in the wild. They're unique in that they've only naturally existed on the East African coastal island of Madagascar, which has gone through a lot of modern development. Their already limited natural habitat has been reduced greatly, and they are under threat of going extinct in the wild.
